Citigroup accidentally credited $81 trillion dollars into a customer’s account, instead of $280. The error took place in April of 2024 and was missed by two employees. However, a third worker found the error an hour and a half after the transaction was processed. The payment was then reversed. “Our detective controls promptly identified the inputting error between two Citi ledger accounts,” a Citigroup representative said. The “near miss” did not impact the customer or the bank. Citigroup experienced 10 near misses of $1 billion dollars or more in 2024. (CBS News)
