Study: ChatGPT Doesn’t Explain Student Plagiarism

Research from the University of the Basque Country found that popular AI bot ChatGPT only explains 3.9% of student plagiarism. The study examined 507 Spanish university students and their grades, workload, motivation, competitiveness, and more. Factors like lack of motivation, exposure to cheating culture, and less awareness of the consequences were more strongly linked to the likelihood to plagiarize. To combat cheating, universities could focus on motivation instead of banning AI tools outright. (Study Finds)
