An alleged jewelry thief reportedly swallowed $770,000 worth of Tiffany earrings shortly before being arrested. Florida man Jaythan Gilder told Tiffany & Co. employees that he was a representative of an NBA team, and was taken to a VIP room to examine high-end jewelry, police records say. However, after a struggle, Gilder ran off with what police believe are two earrings, according to Detective Aaron Goss. As he was being taken into custody, Gilder swallowed the merchandise. A scan taken at the Washington County Jail discovered foreign objects in his stomach, Detective Goss says. Gilder has been booked on suspicion of grand theft. The items have yet to be recovered.
