Researchers from the University of Zurich found that AI chatbots do seem more “anxious” when exposed to distressing content. The team exposed GPT-4 to traumatic stories, and discovered that the bots’ self-reported psychological assessment scores changed in response. “The results were clear: traumatic stories more than doubled the measurable anxiety levels of the AI, while the neutral control text did not lead to any increase in anxiety levels,” lead study author Tobias Spiller said. On the other hand, exposing the bots to mindfulness techniques like breathing exercises “calmed” the anxiety levels. (Study Finds)
