A survey of 2,000 music lovers found that 38% of Americans believe streaming music is “superior” to physical media. 14% think listening to the radio is the best way to consume music, and 15% prefer to hear their favorite artists live. The average respondent spends $274 on music in a year, including concerts and streaming services. However, the Talker Research poll found that 35% of adults believe a month of streaming shouldn’t cost more than $10, but 54% would pay $20 for a vinyl record. “Streaming is great because you can obtain nearly anything you require almost all the time,” Steve Nixon of FreeJazzLessons.com said. “With physical music, the experience is different…If you buy something physical, you support the artist.” (Talker Research)
