Recently, bird flu has been detected in raw milk, but many Americans still seem unaware of the dangers of drinking unpasteurized dairy. In fact, 12% of Americans incorrectly believe raw milk is equally safe. “Consuming raw milk and raw milk products can make you sick,” Patrick E. Jamieson of APPC’s Annenberg Health and Risk Communication Institute said. “Looking for the pasteurization label before buying or consuming milk or milk products such as cheese is good practice.” The FDA says milk pasteurization kills harmful organisms without significantly impacting nutritional quality. In addition to harboring bird flu, raw milk can be a home for bacteria like Salmonella, E. coli, Listeria, Brucella, and more. (Study Finds)
