A 77-year-old Florida man showed up at a Gainesville hospital with pain in his chest in 2020. Doctors suspected he had an infection in his heart implant, but tests returned negative. Finally, a blood test uncovered that the man had Brucella suis, a bacteria typically found in pigs. The patient confessed that he received the gift of feral swine meat from a hunter in 2018. After a proper course of antibiotics, the man is now free of brucellosis. There are more than a million feral swine in Florida, and doctors recommend thinking twice before eating it. (Ars Technica)
