Research led by Dr. Eero A. Haapala found that kids who use mobile devices more often tend to have more stress and depressive symptoms as teens. This eight-year study tracked kids from elementary school all the way to adolescence, and discovered that higher activity levels were linked to better mental health outcomes. Screen time and physical fitness seemed to have a greater impact on teen mental health than diet quality and sleep. Researchers recommend limiting screen time and encouraging supervised sports.
