International animal welfare group Four Paws has announced the start of “March Napness!” The March Madness-style competition tracks when bears living in Europe will wake up from hibernation. The contestants are 23 European brown bears living at six different sanctuaries. A bear is “kicked out” of their bracket if they’re active for at least five days. “I think they can really help bring back the movement that sleep is self-care and there’s no harm in taking a little nap when you need it,” spokesperson Claire LaFrance said. “The sleepiest bear wins.” (UPI)
