Researchers at the University of Auckland captured footage of a shark swimming with a funny orange hat off the coast of Kawau Island. But what was the orange object? “One of the best things about being a marine scientist is that you never know what you might see next in the sea,” Rochelle Constantine said. As it turns out, the orange mass was an octopus hitching a ride. “We really don’t know how this octopus, that lives on the seabed, came across this [10-foot-long] mako shark,” Constantine commented. Researchers noticed that the shark did not seem to be bothered by its companion, and the octopus was alive and well. (newser)
