As a 5.2-magnitude earthquake hit San Diego Monday morning, footage captured elephants at the zoo encircling their young to protect them. Video taken at San Diego Zoo Safari Park shows older elephants Ndlula, Umngani, and Khosi shielding two 7-year-old calves. “Elephants have the unique ability to feel sounds through their feet and formed what is known as an ‘alert circle’,” the park wrote on Facebook. The animals dispersed once they felt everyone was safe. (CBS News)
