Research from the University of Toronto found that children’s mattresses could emit up to 21 harmful compounds. Specifically, kids four and under could be exposed to semivolatile organic compounds, also known as SVOCs. These compounds could move into the air children breathe or onto their skin. “Parents should be able to lay their children down for sleep knowing they are safe and snug,” co-author Arlene Blum said. To conduct their study, the team bought 16 new mattresses at various price points from North American retailers and tested them. (Study Finds)
