A University of Michigan study found that 44% of parents have no information on how to talk to their kids about puberty. And they might not have as much time as they think they do: 17% of kids between the ages of 7 and 9 are already showing signs. 54% of parents say they’re proactive when it comes to giving their kids “the talk”, but 41% talk about the subject only when their kids bring it up. 40% report that their parents didn’t talk to them about puberty at all, suggesting a cycle of misinformation and silence. “If puberty was treated as an awkward or embarrassing subject growing up, that can make it harder to know how to begin,” Mott Poll Co-Director Sarah Clark said.
