A recent study discovered that female athletes may have a hidden advantage when it comes to endurance in extremely cold conditions. During the Alaska Mountain Wilderness Ski Classic, researchers tracked 20 participants as they braved freezing temperatures reaching -32.8 degrees Fahrenheit. Women’s bodies seemed to be more efficient when it came to energy expenditure. “Our observation is congruent with those that show women to be potentially more resistant to performance fatigability,” researchers wrote.
