Cicada Brood XIV Is Back

Cicada Brood XIV…or 14…is back for the second time this century. These insects can be heard across 15 states, including Tennessee and North Carolina. The noisy cicadas emerge about every 17 years, and each brood emerges in a distinct region. While they may sound and smell unpleasant, cicadas do not bite or spread disease. In fact, they can help the environment by aerating soil. Up to 1.5 million cicadas can cover a single tree-covered acre. (newser)
