Can your cat get bird flu? American poultry and dairy farms are still on high alert, and new research from the University of Maryland investigated feline transmission of the virus. “Bird flu is very deadly to cats, and we urgently need to figure out how widespread the virus is in cat populations,” disease researcher Kristen Coleman said. As birds migrate during the springtime, bird flu could potentially spread along with them, and infect our feline friends. In 2023 and 2024, researchers saw a spike in the number of cats passing away from bird flu. Pet parents and veterinarians are advised to increase their surveillance of cats. “We want to help protect both people and pets,” Coleman said. (Yahoo!)
