A comprehensive Finnish study tracking over 23,000 adults for up to 35 years has challenged the notion that it’s too late to start losing weight in one’s 40s. The research revealed that individuals who shed pounds during middle age, without surgery or weight-loss medications, experienced significantly better health outcomes compared to those who remained overweight. Participants who transitioned from overweight to a healthy weight saw a 48% lower risk of developing chronic diseases and a 19% reduced mortality rate in the following decades. Notably, the weight loss did not need to be drastic – the average participant lost just 6.5% of their body weight, roughly 13 pounds for a 200-pound individual. “The weight loss didn’t need to be dramatic either,” stated lead author Dr. Timo Strandberg from the University of Helsinki. “Participants who succeeded lost an average of just 6.5% of their body weight.” (Study Finds)
