Thieves Use Wet Saw to Steal $1.3 Million in Jewelry from Chicago-Area Store

Thieves broke into Rick Kleinvehn Diamond Brokers in South Barrington, Illinois, by cutting through the wall of a vacant office next door. The burglars used a wet saw to slice through the safe’s steel walls, creating a messy slush inside. The heist, estimated at $1.3 million, occurred over Mother’s Day weekend and involved a well-equipped crew who disabled the store’s security system. Approximately 1,000 pieces of jewelry, constituting 90% of the store’s inventory, were stolen. Owner Rick Kleinvehn is offering a $25,000 reward for information leading to the thieves’ arrest and an additional $50,000 if the stolen jewelry is recovered. Police are investigating the incident.
