An 80-year-old man drove a Mercedes-Benz A Class sedan down Rome’s iconic Spanish Steps before becoming stuck partway down. The man, who tested negative for alcohol, was immediately cited for the incident. The driver’s identity and ownership of the vehicle were not disclosed by police. Firefighters later used a crane to remove the compact luxury car from the steps. This incident is not the first time the Spanish Steps have been the site of such reckless behavior, as in 2022, a Saudi man was charged for driving a rented Maserati down the historic landmark. Built in the 1720s, the Spanish Steps remain a popular destination for tourists and locals alike. (Newser)
