A new poll of 500 parents who drive reveals that one in three has experienced a near-miss incident due to distractions from children in the backseat. The top disruptions cited include sibling bickering (44%), screaming (39%), and an endless stream of questions (37%). More than a third (35%) of respondents admit to taking their eyes off the road after children wriggled out of their seatbelts, and nearly one-fifth (19%) say the chaos has even caused a minor collision. To mitigate this backseat bedlam, parents have resorted to various tactics, such as providing snacks (57%), blasting music (57%), offering rewards (36%), and handing over tablets or smartphones (32%). Despite these efforts, over half (52%) of parents feel anxious about taking their children on long journeys due to the distractions. In fact, nearly half (49%) have cancelled plans to avoid the stress of dealing with bored, restless kids in the car. (Talking Points)
