A study suggests that frequent drinking may increase the risk of unintended pregnancy among young women who do not wish to become pregnant. Researchers surveyed 2,200 women aged 15-34, of whom 40% explicitly stated they did not want to get pregnant. Among the women who did not want to become pregnant, approximately half were classified as heavy drinkers, consuming at least four drinks per night out. These heavy drinkers were about 30% more likely to accidentally become pregnant compared to women who regularly used cannabis instead of drinking. The findings also showed that heavy drinkers were more likely to get pregnant unintentionally than their peers who consumed alcohol more moderately or abstained entirely. Researchers suggest this may be due to alcohol being more socially acceptable than cannabis, as well as its potential to lower inhibitions and lead to riskier sexual behavior. (Daily Mail)
