A recent survey of 2,000 dog owners found that 39% worry their dogs struggle in summer due to less exercise and the risk of overheating. Seventy-seven percent have canceled outdoor activities, averaging nearly four cancellations a week because of the heat. Many owners are adapting by walking dogs in the evening or early morning, sticking to shaded routes, or driving to cooler spots. Creative indoor activities, such as frozen treats, baby pools, and agility courses, are on the rise. Ninety-one percent check conditions before walks, and 42% check pavement temperature for safety. “Summer heat poses real risks to our canine companions,” said Dr. Jay N. Gladden at MedVet.
