A new survey reveals the American public’s evolving perceptions of affordable housing amid the nation’s housing crisis. Over half of 1,000 U.S. adults polled believe their monthly housing costs exceed what is reasonable, spending an average of 42% of their annual income on housing. 42% of surveyed parents doubt their children can afford living in their current neighborhoods due to soaring costs. Many blame their high-cost surroundings, with 45% citing above-average neighborhood living expenses and 33% noting notorious housing price tags. This crisis has driven growing support for affordable housing solutions. 63% view “affordable housing” positively, more than other multi-family options.
