Completing DIY home projects gives millennials and Gen Z confidence boosts lasting about seven weeks, according to a survey of 2,000 homeowners and renters. Nearly nine in ten said finishing home projects makes them feel accomplished for six weeks afterward, while 83% agree nothing beats completing DIY work independently. Survey participants averaged eight completed projects in their current homes, with homeowners finishing twice as many as renters. Most intimidating tasks include installing flooring at 41%, caulking tubs at 41%, and repairing drywall at 38%. Common first projects were painting at 21%, mounting TVs at 13%, and hanging pictures at 10%. Despite interest, one in six lacks tool kits due to cost concerns. “Our mission is to break down those barriers and show that creativity doesn’t require a garage full of equipment,” said Eric Siegel from Dremel, which commissioned the study.
