Guinness World Records has officially recognized a 416-year-old grapevine in Tibet as the world’s oldest wild living vine. The ancient plant grows in Zuoba Village, Zogang County, at nearly 7,900 feet above sea level. Researchers discovered the vine during a survey of notable trees in Changdu city. Scientists from Southwest Forestry University’s Wood Science Research Laboratory in China analyzed the specimen using ring analysis and physical measurements to confirm its age. The record-breaking vine stands approximately 26 feet tall with a diameter exceeding 2 feet. Guinness World Records made the certification official in September. The mountainous location of this centuries-old grapevine makes it a remarkable botanical discovery, surviving harsh high-altitude conditions for more than four centuries before scientists identified its record-setting age.
