More than half of empty nesters plan to have their adult children return home this holiday season, with kids traveling an average of 596 miles to get there, according to a survey of 1,000 parents. The study found 69% say it’s “easy” to convince their children to come home for holidays. Food plays a key role: 72% of adult children request their favorite meals be prepared for their visit. Empty nesters are happy to comply, with 87% planning to cook their kids’ preferred dishes. Two-thirds begin shopping weeks ahead for these special foods. On average, empty nesters said they’re planning to have three different main dishes at the ready before guests arrive — the most popular being turkey (66%) and ham (52%). (Story URL)
