High school seniors express less interest in marriage than previous generations, with girls driving the decline. Pew Research Center data shows 67 percent of 12th graders in 2023 expect to marry, down from 80 percent in 1993. Among girls, marriage interest plummeted 22 points from 83 percent to 61 percent over three decades. Boys remained relatively stable, dropping slightly from 76 percent to 74 percent. This creates a gender flip where boys now show more marriage interest than girls. Fewer seniors also expect lifelong marriages, falling from 59 percent to 51 percent.
