A new study shows creative engagement can make brains biologically younger. Researchers examined over 1,400 people involved in dance, music, visual arts, and strategy gaming, using EEG and machine learning to measure “brain age gap.” Results showed people with deeper creative expertise had younger brains across all activities. Experts in tango, music, drawing, and real-time strategy gaming displayed delayed brain aging by 5-7 years compared to non-experts. Even short-term video game learners showed about three years of delayed aging after training. The study found creativity strengthens brain communication networks, particularly frontoparietal systems controlling attention, planning, and flexible thinking.
