New surveys from the International Housewares Association show Americans increasingly choose home products as gifts for major occasions. Engagement gift preferences jumped from 21 percent to 42 percent in one year, while college-bound student gifts rose from 17 percent to 38 percent. IHA President Derek Miller said “In the midst of economic uncertainty and dissonance in the larger world, our homes are becoming an even more valued refuge.” The 2026 At-Home Entertaining Survey found 28 percent plan more home gatherings next year, with 51 percent wanting more family time. Kitchen items lead wedding gifts at 51 percent, followed by organization products at 34 percent. New pet celebrations gained traction, with 36 percent likely attending such events.
