Slipknot percussionist Shawn “Clown” Crahan admitted to Rolling Stone that he is preparing for the one-year anniversary of his daughter's death while staying home during the pandemic.
Clown explained, “I've never really had any time to really grieve these people that mean so much to me. I lost my daughter less than a year ago. It's coming up on a year anniversary. Sorry to bring it up, but it's real. And the only way that I can get through it is to speak about it now. I haven't been, but the anniversary of it is next month. And quite honestly, I'm preparing myself.”
22-year-old Gabrielle Crahan died on May 18th, 2019, reportedly from a drug overdose. She was remembered in her obituary as a “social butterfly” with an “outgoing personality, cheerful attitude, compassion and loving heart.” The obituary added that she fought her drug addiction “bravely.”
Gabrielle was one of four children Crahan had with his wife, Chantel, whom he married in June 1992.
Crahan's father passed on in 2005 while the band was on tour, and Crahan spoke about losing his dad while he was away: “I always knew that I was gonna lose my father. It was just hard to have that realization and have that sink in, because there's so much sacrifice you do to have your dream, it never ends and it can really hurt and it can cut in deep. But this is what we do, and this is what we were born to do, and my old man wouldn't want it any other way.”
