Guns N' Roses singer Axl Rose took issue with California residents who protested against Governor Gavin Newsom's order closing Orange County beaches to help slow the spread of the coronavirus.
Newsom closed the beaches last Thursday (April 30th), after crowds packed the coastline the previous weekend in defiance of the need for social distancing amid the global coronavirus pandemic. The Orange County sheriff said he would not enforce the order.
On Friday (May 1st), a few hundred people gathered near the Huntington Beach pier, with most people not wearing protective masks, to voice their disapproval of the state's stay-at-home mandate.
Rose wrote on Twitter, “Q: If the Sheriffs can choose not to enforce the beach closures can the hospitals 'choose' not to admit any possible Covid-19 suspected beach goers? Just askin'…”
There were over 52,000 new coronavirus cases and 2,172 deaths in California as of Monday (May 4th), with around 2,400 cases confirmed in Orange County.
