Morgan Wallen's career may seem like it's in a free fall after a video of him making a racial slur surfaced earlier this week and the Country music industry swiftly deemed him persona non grata, however the iTunes charts as of yesterday (Thursday, Feb. 4th) tell a different story. Morgan had the Number One song with “More Than My Hometown” on both the Top 10 Songs and Top Country Songs charts. “Wasted on You” was at Number Two on the Top 10 Songs chart, where he also held the four, five, six, eight and 10 spots. He dominated the Top Albums and Top Country Albums charts with Dangerous: The Double Album. His debut album, If I Know Me, claimed the Number Two spot on both charts. Morgan also held nine of the 10 spots on the Top Country Songs chart.
In the wake of the video's release, Morgan's music was immediately pulled from radio stations, his videos were pulled from CMT, his recording contract was suspended by his record label, and the Academy of Country Music made him ineligible to receive any awards and/or participate at the upcoming ACM Awards. Just yesterday (Thursday, Feb. 4th), Morgan was dropped by his booking agency William Morris Endeavor.
Morgan was outside his Nashville home on Sunday (Jan. 31st) after a drunken evening when he called a friend of his the N word. The incident was caught on video by a neighbor across the street.
