The Kinks' fifth single, “Tired Of Waiting For You” was recorded in the same sessions as its immediate predecessor, “All Day And All Of The Night,” and released three months later.
The B-side was “Come On Now.”
“Tired Of Waiting For You” represented a change from the power-guitar attack of “All Day And All Of The Night” and “You Really Got Me,” presenting a steadier groove and a more hypnotic, trance-like melody.
Frontman Ray Davies wrote the song during a commute on the Underground Metropolitan Line in London.
The song was the Kinks' second Number One hit on the U.K. pop chart.
It was also the group's third straight top-10 hit in the U.S., peaking at Number Six on the Billboard Hot 100.
Ray Davies said that the group was particularly gratified that “Tired Of Waiting For You” also topped the charts in Singapore. “We'd been on a world tour and I was really homesick being on the road. And The Daily Mirroror one of those papers phoned me up to tell me the record was Number One in England. I was really lonely. So I got a bottle of champagne and I got the waiter who brought it in, who couldn't speak English, to have a drink with me. That was one of the happiest times, just that moment.”
The Kinks-Size album peaked at Number 13 on the Billboard 200, one of the best chart showings the Kinks ever had in the U.S.
