Earlier this week, Billboard's Women In Music 2023 event was held in Los Angeles and it's being reported that Latto may have gotten into a verbal altercation with Doechii. According to Hot New Hip Hop, Doechii mentioned Nick Minaj during her acceptance speech for the Rising Star Award at the event.
Later, Latto was presented with The Powerhouse award. When she accepted her speech, she said, “Megan Thee Stallion won this award, Doja Cat won this award. It’s crazy because I’m fans of my peers and they’re now my peers. All the inspiring women who paved the way for me and all the women that there are to come. I’m grateful to be a part of this new wave of female rap and baby, we kickin’ down the door and we ain’t takin’ no for an answer.”
Social media reacted to Latto's speech, pointing out the fact that she didn't mention Nicki Minaj and some felt that she was making fun of Doechii's acceptance speech by mentioning other people who won her award. One person tweeted, “Moments after @iamdoechii gave props to Nicki Minaj and other women who have been honored at Women In Music, @latto gets on stage, follows Doechii speech, & does a whole cheeky smile as she tries to not mention Nicki. It’s honestly weird at this point. Roomies, what y’all think?”
Latto responded, tweeting, “Y’all arms not sore yet from all that REACHING???????!!!:
Although Latto is saying that people are reaching, it's being reported that thing escalated backstage between her and Doechii. According to Femme RAP Live, sources say that Doechii “checked” Latto for making a mockery of her acceptance speech, which led to the argument. Before security intervened, sources say that Doechii was about to “crack” Latto. Billboard, allegedly, asked Latto & her team to escort themselves from the premises after her performance. After the show, Doechii hopped on live to dance to Nicki Minaj's “Barbie Tingz.”
