Green Day wants to play in a fan's backyard. The punk trio has launched a contest to find a fan who is ready and willing to host a record release party in his, her or their yard to celebrate the arrival of the band's new album, Father Of All Motherf**kers, next month.
Frontman Billie Joe Armstrong posted a video on Instagram in which he said, “Does anybody have a relatively big backyard that we could do like a backyard party somewhere? We could come and play at your house or your garage or your backyard. Or if you have like a barn. Or is there a church or a church parking lot? You know I was conceived in a church parking lot? Anyway, just hijinks, fun, mischief. A backyard party with your favorite band, Green Day!”
In a follow-up video, Armstrong added one disclaimer, saying, “Oh yeah, it would have to be in California.”
While you might expect fans to get up and jam with the band at such a bash, Armstrong told us that it's a risky proposition: “You know, it's a gamble because there's so many people in the crowd saying they play guitar, and I think one out of 10 of them are actually any good at it. But you know, we've been surprised. You know, I mean, it's just three chords that they come up and play. It ends up being cool, you know?”
It's not clear when the party would take place, but Father Of All Motherf**kers is out February 7th and follows up 2016's Revolution Radio. The band has already issued the title cut and “Fire, Ready Aim” as singles, with a third track, “Oh Yeah!”, coming on January 16th.
Following the release of the LP, Green Day will hit the road for the “Hella Mega Tour” this summer with Fall Out Boy and Weezer.
