Evanescence has shared the apocalyptic music video for its cover of Fleetwood Mac's "The Chain." The clip finds the band performing the song while bathed in red light as smoke hovers around them. Also included is footage from the video game Gears Of War 5 — for which the cover was recorded — as well as some desert scenes.
The video closes with a shot of drummer Will Hunt's drum kit on fire — possibly a reference to the rioting at Mexico's Knotfest last November that prevented Evanescence from performing and ended with Hunt's real-life drums being set ablaze.
Evanescence released “The Chain” last November, marking their first new rock recording in eight years. The band is currently working on new music, which will arrive later on in 2020. The band previously released their symphonic music album, Synthesis, in 2017.
Singer Amy Lee says she's not opposed to releasing music through other formats than albums. She told us a while back that she doesn't use record sales as a gauge for success anymore: ["Well you just can't judge it the same way you used to and by the same model. Having people hear and connect to your song isn't directly linked to record sales, that's for sure. I think it may be more accurate to look at how many views on YouTube or something. I'm cool about it. We've had a lot of success in the past and that's awesome. I don't look at it like this daunting thing that we have to live up to, I look at it like this really positive, awesome thing that wouldn't have been able to happen if we'd come out for the first time this year."] SOUNDCUE (:24 OC: . . . time this year.)
Evanescence will play Download Japan in Tokyo on March 29th before embarking on a European tour this April. The group will return home to appear at the Sonic Temple festival in Columbus, Ohio in mid-May.
