Would you want to work for a demanding boss like Steve Jobs? Researchers from The Ohio State University found that employees were more likely to tolerate difficult bosses if they were high achievers. Participants were asked to rank hostile behaviors like ridiculing employees, giving the silent treatment, or taking credit for someone else’s work. When a boss was also a high performer, these behaviors were seen more as “tough love.” “These bosses may treat employees harshly, but presumably their intent is to help their followers realize their potential – that’s the ‘tough love’ part,” study co-author Bennett Tepper said. However, overlooking these bad management behaviors could lead to a toxic work environment. (Study Finds)
