A recent study published in Nature Medicine found that the shingles vaccine Shingrix may delay the onset of dementia. An older shingles vaccine called Zostavax has also been shown to reduce the risk of dementia, but Shingrix was found to be more effective. Researchers compared 103,837 people who received Zostavax with 103,837 people who took Shingrix. Those who received Shingrix saw a 17% increase in “diagnosis-free time.” This amounted to about 164 days without a dementia diagnosis. Bacterial infections in the gut have been linked with a higher dementia risk. (Study Finds)
