Ford has patented a system that would allow cars to monitor other vehicles’ speed on the road. In theory, this could mean that cars could snitch on themselves by sending speeding information directly to police. The patent was published by the US Patent and Trademark Office on July 18th. While some consumers are worried, a Ford spokesperson says the system is intended for use by law enforcement vehicles only. “This patent does not state that driving data from customers’ vehicles would be shared with law enforcement,” a spokesperson said.
