Your cat might be more like you than you thought! A study from The Ohio State University found that overweight cats could help develop treatments for obesity in humans. When heavier cats lose weight, their gut microbiome…or the bacteria in their stomachs…changes in a way that is similar to humans. This could help researchers develop weight loss treatments for human beings that target the gut. “Being able to see changes in cats that come up in the context of obesity and Type 2 diabetes in people makes them a really good model to start looking at more microbiome-directed therapeutics,” Dr. Jenessa Winston said. These treatments could even prevent weight gain before it happens. (Study Finds)
