A new study published in Frontiers in Microbiology found hardy bacteria can survive in your microwave. Researchers found Klebsiella, Enterococcus, and Aeromonas, which all can pose a health risk, in samples from 30 microwaves. This suggests that bacteria has adapted to even the harsh conditions of a microwave. “It is important to wipe down the interior surfaces with a damp cloth after each use to remove any residue and to clean up spills immediately to prevent the growth of bacteria,” researcher Daniel Torrent said.
