A controversial and disturbing statue is being removed from a gallery in Wellington, New Zealand, after watching over the city for five years. The sculpture is in the shape of a giant hand with a human face on it. Quasi by Ronnie van Hout was commissioned by the Christchurch Art Gallery in 2016 and was placed atop the City Gallery Wellington in 2019. “Quasi arrived on an azure-blue morning by helicopter and created a stir from day one,” Wellington Sculpture Trust Chair Jane Black said. The next stop for the hand? Australia. (UPI)
