An AI-assisted review suggests that more than 1 in 5 Americans may suffer from long COVID. This estimate is significantly higher than the 7% suggested by previous studies. Researchers used an AI tool to sift through electronic health records looking for signs of long COVID, including fatigue, chronic cough, and “brain fog.” “Questions about the true burden of long COVID — questions that have thus far remained elusive — now seem more within reach,” Hossein Estiri of Mass General Brigham in Boston said. “Physicians are often faced with having to wade through a tangled web of symptoms and medical histories…Having a tool powered by AI that can methodically do it for them could be a game-changer.” (UPI)
