Scientists in Japan have created a strong plastic that dissolves in the ocean. This invention could make plastic waste in the ocean a thing of the past! Unlike other plastics which biodegrade but still leave smaller pieces, the RIKEN Center for Emergent Matter Science created a plastic that completely breaks apart and leaves components marine bacteria can use. This plastic is held together by “salt bridges” that are broken apart by salt water. (Study Finds)
