American approval of capitalism has fallen to its lowest point since tracking began in 2010, according to a Gallup poll. Only 54% of adults now view capitalism favorably, down 6 points from 2021. The August survey shows Democrats and independents driving the decline, with both groups dropping 8 points over two years. For the first time, less than half of Democrats (42%) view capitalism positively, while 51% of independents remain supportive. Republican support holds steady at 74%. Meanwhile, socialism garners 39% overall approval, but Democrats now favor socialism over capitalism by 24 points (66% to 42%). Only 37% of Americans rate big business positively, with Republicans at 60%, independents at 36%, and Democrats at just 17%. According to Axios, the results reflect “a growing unease with the economy, rising inflation, and a stagnating job market.” (Story URL)
